Shayna

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

The Yiddish word for “beautiful” is Shayna, and this little namesake totally fits the bill. Coolly elegant with her gray and white coat, Shayna plays the shy card, but only for a little bit. When she gets to know you, she happily shares her loving and gentle heart with her super best friend. Just visualize this stunning girl happily padding around your nest, checking you out with her gorgeous green eyes, and sharing precious cuddle moments with you on your favorite chair. Shayna would like to be your one and only kitty… and that’s a beautiful thing in any language!

Charly

Monday, October 31st, 2016

Charly lived a harrowing life on the streets until she was rescued by a good Samaritan who got her to the loving shelter of Francisvale where she has found the safety and security she needs and deserves. Outside of taking medication for her hyper thyroid condition, Charly is tip top. She loves to eat and cozy up to her people. Having to take care of herself on the streets has helped Charly channel her inner spunk so you can be sure that you will enjoy witnessing her can-do spirit.

Sapphire

Monday, October 10th, 2016

Sapphire, a nine-year old, red-point Siamese mix, is truly in a word, beautiful. If you like a snuggler, this sweet kitty will curl up in your lap, and tuck her head in the crook of your arm, for that extra dose of coziness. This baby is a bit shy but, oh, so gentle. A quiet serene home with calm and loving guardians would give this precious jewel some great peace of mind. In medieval times, a sapphire was thought to bring protection and good fortune as well as being a symbol of strength and kindness. Our little Sapphire can be your wonderful treasure, and you can be hers. Now that’s a win-win.

Michelangelo

Wednesday, July 6th, 2016

We all know that masterpieces come in every shape and size. But, who knew that they also come in four paws and a tail?! Michelangelo, “artiste dramatique” decked out in his lush black coat with just a dab of white fur for that sophisticated flair, would love to have you as his patron. A cuddlepuss at heart, this sweet kitty craves nothing more than to paint a picture of himself with you as his first forever family. This Michelangelo, just five months old, will bring his “kitteny” joie de vivre into your life with his playful ways and adventuresome nature. By the way, if you really want to ramp up your cultural connections, you might also consider adopting Michelangelo along with his brothers, Leonardo and Donatello, as a “purrfect” package deal! Just saying… Sculpt out a little time to meet Michelangelo at Francisvale.

Venus

Wednesday, June 15th, 2016

“Venus, goddess of love that you are…” — just imagine the good fortune that awaits you if you choose this little Venus as your very own. A stunning long-haired coat of dusky gray with smoldering green eyes, this little girl will capture your heart the minute you lay eyes on her. Abandoned at the front gate of Francisvale in May, this beautiful kitty chooses to see the world through loving eyes. If you and Venus select each other, she will bestow upon you gentle kisses and affectionate cuddling. In true “diva style”, she is Miss Personality and will eagerly come to greet you at the door at the end of a hard day. At heart, sweet Venus cherishes a calm, serene home befitting her status as “goddess.” You’ve only got to see her to know that you have truly found a “girl with all the charms” of the proverbial Venus, and that she can “make your wishes come true” if you choose to bring this wonderful treasure into your life.

Mesmerizingly intense blue eyes, laser beams to the heart, single out this Siamese beauty with her definitive air of quiet mystique and tranquil elegance. Looking into those eyes, you know you are truly in the presence of an “old-soul.” Just really six years old though, our girl Paisley is laid back, mellow and affectionate – a dynamic trio of traits, don’t you think? She will love following you around and checking in on what you are doing. She won’t mind some sweet snuggly petting either. Abandoned in the woods and a bit of surgery for a benign condition didn’t leave this kitty down and out. She just bounced right back! Treat yourself to a dip of Paisley’s blue pools and find yourself and a new best friend.

Jack

Friday, May 13th, 2016

This Jack “don’t wanna hit the road no more, no more, no more.” This Jack “don’t wanna hit the road no more!” Instead, this boy is only looking to find that “long and winding road” that leads him right into your heart. Can you imagine – at just a smidgen over one-year old, Jack was abandoned, found wandering, alone, hungry, and scared behind a shopping center. Thanks to the generously big heart of a compassionate stranger, Jack was safely delivered from a harsh life on the streets to the warm, loving shelter of Francisvale where he receives the tender, loving care he so deserves. Despite his troubles and the poor treatment he experienced at the hands of some, Jack retains his optimism that all will be well. Exquisitely beautiful with his stunning gray and white coat, charming little beauty mark on his nose, and huge, serenely limpid eyes, Jack just wants to share his loving heart with you. He seems to get it…that when you have been dealt a heart-breaking blow, you meet life’s disappointments with grace. Jack retains his sweet, affectionate, and friendly nature, and he is poised to share that magnificent self with you. Just give him a chance, and your life will be the better for it – a win-win…it doesn’t get any better than that.

Storm

Thursday, April 7th, 2016

This little guy’s name may be Storm, but he’s really the proverbial “calm”. Just look into those deeply intense eyes, and you’ll feel the serenity that comes from two hearts in sync. Storm is looking for that forever family who will treasure, protect, and truly care for him. Still a kitty at one-and-a-half, this baby will wriggle his way into your life and lap. A gorgeous contrast in gray and white, he strikes a handsome and distinctive figure with a happy little streak of mischief that will bring a twinkle to your eye. After a storm, we search the sky for the magic of a rainbow sighting and the pot of gold at its end. Let this exquisite kitten be your very own pot of gold. That would be a treasure indeed!

Skittles

Tuesday, July 7th, 2015

No need for that bag of yummy bite-sized candies when little Skittles is snuggling up beside you. He’s all the sugar and sweetness you will ever need. This wee boy just loves, loves, loves when he’s hanging out with his people. Being your one and only, treats, a little head scratch, and cuddle time are top of the list on Skittles’ daily agenda. Being a lovebug is in Skittle’s DNA, but he needs you to be a bit of a lovebug for him too. A while back, Skittles was diagnosed with a growth in his left ear that was removed along with his ear canal. Although in tip-top health now, the surgery left him with some paralysis on the left side of his face. So, he just needs your help putting drops in his left eye each day to keep it lubricated. Despite this hurdle, Skittles meets each and every day with joyful enthusiasm! Share your home with Skittles, and let him become a bright light in your life.

Nala

Tuesday, December 30th, 2014

Just look at this picture of sun-kissed Nala and what you see is what you get…personality plus!! This beautiful kitty also has a lot of gumption. She started out life solo…found newly born and abandoned, she was blessed to come under the care of one of Francisvale’s compassionate staff members. She was bottle fed and raised in loving kindness not only by the staff member in her home but also by her family dogs who took this sweet, innocent kitty under their “paws” and protected her like their own. In short order, lovely Nala was adopted. For three glorious years, Nala had a wonderful home, and then she didn’t. Her family could no longer take care of her so she returned to Francisvale. Now, two years later, five-year-old Nala is longing to once again have a home she can call her own. This girl will love being your playmate and your lapmate. She relishes gazing out the window and watching the world go by. Nala would happily enjoy your companionship as well as that of the other two and four-legged members of your family. She is just your all-around social butterfly! Swing by Francisvale and get your very own “high five” from Nala. Before you know it, you could be getting that awesome greeting very single day!

Captain

Tuesday, September 9th, 2014

Oh Captain, my Captain…bring this little boy on board, and it’ll be smooth sailing and full steam ahead. Exotic with an aura of mystique, this laddie has mastered the art of lighthearted roguishness. Playful is his middle name, and he particularly likes to give your hair an affectionate little tug when you stroll past him. A light, sweet tap on your arm is his way of sending you a message from his heart. In the mood for conversation? Captain loves to chitchat and will happily talk to you…but isn’t any discussion made all the better when there’s a little snack involved? Captain certainly thinks so and willingly shares his opinion about when breakfast should be served. He’s an all-day grazer, believing in that figure saving concept that small meals throughout the day are the way to go. Choose Captain for your wheelhouse, and your crew will be complete.

Tenille

Tuesday, September 9th, 2014

Love, love will keep us together…a Captain and Tennille hit in 1975, will be a hit again in 2017 when you meet our little Tennille, and she sweeps you off your feet. This laid back lady may play it a bit shy at first, but, before you know it, you’ve got a best bud, snuggling up and looking forward to lots of delicious belly rubs. Yummy treats top the hit parade as well! This winsome girl with the gorgeous eyes that speak volumes and the luxurious brownish red coat would love a quiet home with you. To paraphrase this hit singing duo, “Look in your heart, hear with your heart” and bring Tennille home with you.

Honey Bunny

Thursday, March 13th, 2014

You how all of the big mouths get all of the attention? I just don’t understand it.  There is something to be said for classy, demure little girls like me. I just want to be held and loved. I will never be pushy or demanding just quiet and loving. I briefly lived with other cats, a dog and little children. I enjoyed all of it even though it was short lived.

A very nice woman fed me when I was outside and she couldn’t take me in but she found a warm loving place for me to be at Francisvale. I may be a bit of a wallflower but underneath I am a gentle, affectionate soul. Whoever gives me a chance (or treats and tuna) will be very lucky and pleased! Promise!!

Heads up, Royals! There’s a new princess in town – classy, stylish, and full of chutzpah! Our little Princess is a gorgeous, long-haired calico cat whose fabulous looks, confident demeanor, and regal stroll would give the best of the runway models a run for the money. On top of all that, this little girl is as beautiful inside as she is out. Clearly, she is one of those Royals who loves to mingle with the people and gets along well with everyone she meets. Princess has an uncomplicated agenda in life – you can sum it up as “Love the one you’re with!” She enjoys nothing more than curling up on a comfortable lap, getting pets and scratches behind the ears, and being your friend. She also doesn’t let her stunning good looks get in the way of having a lot of crazy fun! Princess, being the water sign she is, has a fascination for good old H2O. She plops her paws in her water bowl and splashes around. She asks that you turn on the faucet for her so she can drink from the well, or, even, on occasion, take a little shower! This kitty is laid back and full of joie de vivre! If you every wanted to have a taste of living like the Royals, just let this little girl come into your life!

Chutney

Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

Hello to all of my potential friends. I love meeting new people because I’m hoping one day that someone will take me home. I am told that I am an old soul. I’m still a kitten, but I don’t really act like one. I’m delightfully calm kitten. I spend my time relaxing on one of the cat beds or cat trees patiently waiting for someone to spend some time with me.  I will gently nuzzle next to you just enjoying the company.
I was found outside as a stray so my past is a bit of a mystery. I spent some time in a staff members home and was great with her child and also her dog. All I wanted to do was stretch out on the bed.

If you are looking for an charming cat to add some love to your life consider visiting me.

Groucho

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Back in the day, the comedian, Groucho Marx, hosted a popular television show that contained a segment called “Guess the Secret Word”. Well, in our Groucho’s case, the secret word is “lovable.” Just like Groucho the comedian, our boy sports a dapper mustache and a great sense of humor. This nine-year old black and white bundle of joy loves to do clever things like giving you a sweet lick on the forehead when you say “kiss” and pat your face. He comes when called and sits on command. He is also a pro at giving you his paw. We speculate that he might be a southpaw because he loves to give that greeting with his soft left foot. You might convince him to do some yoga exercises with you; Groucho is a little bit weight conscious and wouldn’t mind losing a few. But, when you’re done exercising and want to chill, Groucho will be your “happy in your lap” cat. He’s even been known to doze off curled up in the comfort of your company. Belly rubs rank right up there too! Groucho is okey-dokey with other cats but wants to share equal billing in loving his people. He also prefers dining alone. Groucho is very nurturing and loves to take care of his friends. At Francisvale, he and his friend, “Tank”, snuggle close, hug, and groom each other – what a lover boy!

Gouda

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Who wouldn’t want to add an extra helping of sweetness, joy, and love into their lives? Well, if the answer to that question is “Me, I would!!”, then we have the girl for you! Gorgeous Gouda, a long-time resident at Francisvale, is an undiscovered treasure. She is outgoing, affectionate, and playful, loving to get her belly rubbed and to play chase with her balls. She is sure to bring a smile to your face as she companionably relaxes with you, sunning herself on the windowsill and happily accepting treats from her best friend. Gouda is laid-back and easy-going…just look into those mesmerizing green eyes, and you can see that she epitomizes the ideals of peaceful contentedness and living in the moment. When you come to Francisvale, ask for Gouda by name. She tends to be a bit shy when people come to visit at the shelter, and she hides her light under a basket. But, if you give Gouda a chance to shine in a home of her own, you will be delighted with the beautiful little soul you selected. When it comes to unconditional love, Gouda is tops!

Tippy

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Tippy was part of a feral cat colony that was endanger of being poisoned by some people in her neighborhood. Fortunately one of our volunteers was able to rescue her and two of her friends from the scary situation. Tippy is a special girl that is going to need a very patient and loving home. She is starting to come out of her shell and is getting use to being around people. She now comes down from her perch and cryies for her breakfast. She may not come up for hugs and kisses yet, but with a loving cat saavy person her whole world could open up. She feels very comfortable in the company of other cats and would do great in a multiple cat household. Tippy loves to sleep and cuddle with her friend Beauty.

Sophia

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Hi! I’m Sophia and I’m looking for a fun home to call my own. I love to run and play. Give me a chest full of toys and I will have fun all day long! I am also a very good companion. I love to follow all the staff members around while they do their work. I can’t help it, I’m just curious and love the company! I get picked on a lot from some of the cats here at the shelter.  I don’t know why. I guess when your a little quirky and a bit nerdy you get picked on…even in the cat world. I am keeping my paws crossed that I will be able to go to a home where everyone loves me and I can leave these cats behind. Can you help the nerdy girl become the Belle of the Ball?

Penelope

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Hello there, I’m Penelope. I’ve been at the shelter for quite a number of years. I was dropped off as a stray. I’ve seen my friends come and go and it’s starting to affect me just a bit. I’m patiently waiting my turn, but some days it’s harder to be optimistic. When I first came here things were a lot different. I was in a cage 20hrs a day and it wasn’t very easy to make friends or become trusting. Once the shelter changed it’s policies and we were out all day, I had to readjust again. It was very overwhelming to be surrounded by people and cats of all different personalities. My first response was to be on the defense. I didn’t want anyone coming too close to me, so I chose to spend most of my time hanging up on the cat trees. It gave me the opportunity to see what what going on in the room. I took  my time making friends. Sometimes I would swat at people if they spent too much time petting me. I just got overwhelmed so quickly. Now my tolerance has definitely gone up and I enjoy having people come over and spend time with me.   I’m pretty sure once I’m in a home and comfortable that I am with a family that loves me and is not going to abandon me, I will become a very important member of the family.  I know I can do it, I just want someone to come and give me a chance. I’m tired of feeling sad every time I get looked over for adoption.  I hope there is someone out there that will give me a chance. If you love me, I will love you in return.

*Penelope would be o.k. with older children that have had experience with cats.

Winsome Willow will steal your heart away with her hypnotizing green eyes and the ying and yang of her lush black and white coat. Like the ancient willow tree, our girl is gracefully lithe and a delicate beauty. But that exterior belies a strength that has withstood great adversity. Spending her early years on the streets, Willow learned the value of flexibility and adaptability. Then, fortune shone down on her, and she came to reside at Francisvale. Over the years, this savvy girl has come to enjoy the great indoors. She shares her love with gentle rubs up against your legs, appreciates yummy treats, and keeps a watchful eye on the world outside her window. Willow will blossom with a tender, sensitive guardian who allows her to relate in her own time and space. Let Willow find her way with you, and your life will be all the better for it.

Bucky Cat

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

As the days draw closer to the coming of spring and the renewal of all things green, our Bucky Cat keeps the faith that it will soon be her turn for a forever home. Bucky had a rough start in life, coming to Francisvale as just a wee kitten, after suffering from severe neglect. She has been a beloved member of the Francisvale family since that time.  Now, at fourteen years of age, Bucky Cat would love to enjoy her senior years in the comfort and caring of her very own forever home. She is a pretty, brown tabby with serene eyes which belies a still feisty personality. She would love to share her life with a person or family who would love her to pieces. She enjoys sweet naps and checking out the neighborhood action while perched on a window sill. Come and spend some time getting to know her, and you will fall in love!
