Lucy is your typical puppy. She is playful, mischievous, and cheerful. She loves attention and playing with toys and other dogs. She has a lot of energy and would enjoy a home that has the time to spend with her. She needs some basic obedience classes. Lucy would be a great addition to any household.

*Lucy was very nervous around the camera and looks a little somber and the pictures do not capture her true essence.

Cliff

Cliff is a Schnauzer mix who was in a local shelter that asked FV for assistance as they were overwhelmed with dogs. He had been turned in as a “stray” so there was no medical history on him. As it turn out, Cliff has a medical condition that is called megaesophagus . When he eats, the tube that goes to his stomach, his esophagus, doesn’t have the muscle capacity to propel the ingested food into his stomach. So he runs the risk of regurgitating this food and aspirating it into his lungs. This happened to him shortly after he came to FV as his condition was unknown to us. He developed a mild case of aspiration pneumonia and was hospitalized. His condition was then properly diagnosed and we are able to manage it quite easily. The key is to feed Cliff his food and then keep him elevated for 30 minutes after his meal. This allows gravity to pull the food down into his stomach properly and out of his esophagus. This may seem time consuming but one of our wonderful volunteers constructed a special chair for Cliff that we feed him in and he sits in after eating. He is getting used to it and it will be crucial for managing his condition. With some medication and the special “Bailey Chair” Cliff is doing very well. Fortunately for him his megaesophagus is not as extreme as in some dogs.

Cliff is so grateful that he is now receiving the proper care; he is happy beyond belief. He is wonderful with other dogs and cats. He loves to go for walks and although he can’t eat treats like normal dogs he doesn’t seem to care. He knows he’s special. After all, how many dogs have their own doggy highchair? He also gets to share an office with the Executive Director. No kennel for Cliff!

Cliff is an awesome companion and he just needs someone special to come along and give him the loving home he deserves.

Kiki was surrendered to Francisvale when her owner became seriously ill and could no longer care for her. She was never spayed as her owner was never told about the importance of having this done.l Unfortunately, as a result, Kiki had multiple mammary masses. We were fortunate to find a study that was being conducted at the University of Pennsylvania that offered free testing and surgery for shelter dogs that had such a condition. The clinical trial included blood work, radiographs and surgery.

The good news is that her blood work is perfect, her Radiographs show no evidence that the cancer has spread to her lungs. the surgery went well and the cancer was successfully removed. Kiki will be required to go to the University every several months for a follow up. There is a possibility that the cancer has spread somewhere else. There is a 50/50 chance and if it does it will be in the first year. We are keeping our fingers crossed that she is free and clear.

Despite everything, Kiki is playful, happy and young at heart. She loves to snuggle and play with toys. She is always looking for a good time. She is great with cats, children and other dogs, though toys are her first love. She is so adorable when she sits by the toy basket and goes through it trying to pick the best one.

The family that took care of Kiki while she was recuperating from surgery reported that she was so pleasant and easy to care for. She loves to eat, go for walks, nap and watch reality t.v. shows. I think her favorite right now is The Real Housewives of Orange County. While she was recuperating, she loved to sleep in bed and eat Frosty Paws.

She’s simple irresistible and you can’t help but kiss her over and over.

Hi, my name is Gwen and life was pretty good until recently. My family hit hard times and had to move to an apartment. The sad thing was there was “No Dogs Allowed”. My family and I were devastated. Fortunately there was room at Francisvale and they promised to help me find a new home.
I’m a fun dog. I love to play and romp around. I make friends very easily. I just seem to have that personality that dogs like. I don’t know if it’s my quirkiness or the fact that I just love a good game of chase. When you meet me I may flip on my back and wiggle around a bit. I think I do it because I’m not sure how to act with new people, but you won’t be a new person for long and I’m sure we will become fast friends. I hope we can spend some time together soon.
